ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia men’s golf program will be well represented in the FedExCup Playoffs, with seven former Bulldogs qualifying by finishing the year in the top 70 of the season’s standings, the PGA TOUR announced.

Brian Harman, who recently won his first career major at the 151st Open Championship, was the highest-ranked former Georgia player in the standings at sixth. He is followed by No. 15 Sepp Straka and No. 20 Russell Henley, who finished tied for second at the Wyndham Championship this past weekend. No. 28 Chris Kirk, No. 39 Brenden Todd, No. 42 Harris English and No. 58 Keith Mitchell round out the Bulldogs alum who will compete in the event.

The FedExCup Playoffs is a progressive cut featuring three events over the month. This begins with the St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tenn., on Wednesday, Aug. 9 featuring all 70 qualifying golfers competing. The field will then be trimmed to 50 for the BMW Championship at the Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Ill., on Aug. 17 and to 30 for the final event at the TOUR Championship at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta on Aug. 21-27.

Players will compete for a total prize pool of $75 million, with the FedExCup Champion bringing home a total of $18 million. The golfer with the lowest stroke total throughout 72 holes at the TOUR Championship, combined with his FedExCup Starting Strokes, will be crowned the champion of the event. In addition to the $18 million prize, the winner also receives a five-year PGA TOUR exemption.

Since the event’s 16-year history, a former college golfer has been named the champion 10 times, three of which played in the Southeastern Conference.
