Georgia football bolsters pass rush with Army Transfer Elo Modozie

The Georgia Bulldogs added a key piece to their defense by bringing in former Army Edge defender Elo Modozie via the transfer portal. With the departures of Mykel Williams, Jalon Walker, and Chaz Chambliss, Georgia found itself needing to replenish talent and experience in its pass rush. Modozie fits that bill and arrives in Athens at just the right time.
Listed at 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds, Modozie brings a blend of size, speed, and effort that made him a disruptive force for Army in 2024. He posted 34 total tackles, seven sacks, and seven quarterback hurries during the season, while also blocking two kicks on special teams—showcasing his all-around value. His production earned him third-team All-AAC recognition, and now he’ll look to translate that success into SEC play.
Georgia’s outside linebacker room took major hits this offseason. Williams and Walker are assuredly both off to the NFL, while Chambliss, a longtime starter, also is trying his hand at the next level. That leaves a relatively young group for defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann and outside linebackers coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe to develop. Modozie, with his experience and motor, could quickly establish himself as a steady presence among younger talents like Gabe Harris, Quintavius Johnson, Isaiah Gibson, Kris Jones, and Chase Linton.
Head coach Kirby Smart has made it clear that strengthening the front seven is a top priority, especially with how much NFL talent has exited the program in recent years. Modozie’s transfer is part of a broader push by Georgia to add immediate-impact players through the portal. In the same wave of additions, Georgia also landed Illinois running back Josh McCray and Miami defensive lineman Joshua Horton, adding depth and competition across multiple position groups.
Modozie is expected to make his presence felt early as Georgia prepares for the 2025 season, which begins at home against Marshall. With a high motor and proven production, he could be a crucial piece in helping maintain the Bulldogs’ reputation as one of the nation’s top defensive units.
