Georgia adds Iona to 2012-13 Basketball Schedule

Georgia has added Iona to their 2012-13 basketball schedule, according to a copy of the contract obtained by Sicemdawgs.com.

The Bulldogs will host the Iona Gaels at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens on Saturday, December 15, 2012. The game will be the first ever meeting between the two schools and Iona will receive $85,000.

Iona is located in New Rochelle, NY and is a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The Gaels finished the 2011-12 season 25-8 overall and made the NCAA Tournament, but lost in the first round 78-72 to BYU.

The game completes Georgia’s 2012-13 non-conference basketball schedule. Two opponents are still unknown, but are part of the 2012 Legends Classic. The two opening rounds will be played in Athens. Georgia’s two opponents will come from the travel pool, which currently consists of Duquesne, James Madison, Liberty, North Dakota State, Sam Houston State and UC Irvine.
