Georgia Basketball to play in Italy in 2012
The Georgia Bulldogs will participate in an Italian Basketball Tour in August 2012, Sicemdawgs.com has learned via a document obtained from UGA.
Georgia has entered into an agreement with Basketball Travelers, Inc. for a tour of Italy from August 3-12, 2012. The Bulldogs will play 2-3 games against Italian pro/club teams.
Basketball Travelers, Inc. (BTI) is a company that was established in 1985 to arrange domestic and international basketball competition. BTI hosts the annual Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands, a tournament the Bulldogs played in back in 2005.
The Hoop Dawgs also utilized the services of BTI in 2004 when they participated in a preseason tour of Canada. The Dawgs played five games on that trek under former head coach Dennis Felton.
Mark Fox and the Georgia Bulldogs are scheduled to depart for Milan, Italy on Friday, Aug. 3. Areas of Italy they are slated to visit include Bellagio and Lake Como, Venice, Florence, Pisa, Cortona, Rome and the Vatican. Georgia will return to Athens on Sunday, Aug. 12 just before Fall classes begin on Aug. 13.
Other games we have confirmed for the 2012-13 UGA Basketball Schedule include Mercer, USC and at Georgia Tech. Georgia will also play a road game in the Big East/SEC Challenge between Dec. 6 and Dec. 8.
The Bulldogs are currently 4-5 and travel to face the USC Trojans on Saturday at 10:00 p.m. ET (SportSouth).
