Georgia Bulldogs Nike Pro Combat Uniform Rumors

The Georgia Bulldogs will officially reveal their 2011 Nike Pro Combat football uniforms on Saturday, August 20 at Picture Day. As the date approaches, rumors continue to surface.

Leather Helmet Blog linked to a post this morning from Cranford, who believes the following about the uniforms:

The basic understanding is that the uniforms will feature the flat silver helmets with a red stripe, and current placement of the “G” logo. The jersey and pant combination will be all red. The collar will feature a faint dog bone outline a la Bama’s houndstooth pattern. Facemasks will be red.

From Hedges to Hardwood is hearing similar rumors about the UGA Nike Pro Combat Uniforms. On this morning’s Hedge Talk 5 podcast, they discuss the uniforms and their possible “traditional” look: silver helmets and red jerseys.

We’ve heard and read the same thing in several different places. These rumors could be from multiple sources, or simply spreading like wildfire from one source.

What we do know is that the Georgia-Boise State game contract stipulates that the Dawgs will wear red jerseys. That’s all we know for sure until pictures are officially released by UGA this weekend. We’ll post the pictures as soon as they are available.

The good thing about releasing the Pro Combats two weeks prior to the Boise State game is it gives Dawg fans plenty of time for discussion. That way there are no surprises on game day and, hopefully, no cries of “fake juice.”

  • So, I guess we'll look like a combination of Ohio State meets Fresno State/Utah? Awesome......

  • Kevin,

Thanks for the link and listen to this morning's Hedge Talk. I hope you enjoyed.

As far as rumors go, I've heard nothing about the collar look, but I wouldn't say that's out of the picture. I'd call that a "uniform adornment" giving Nike their own signature add to the garb a la Alabama as the poster said. I also haven't heard red pants and there's no tradition backing that at all. I don't think we'll see it, but it's possible I guess.

  • Alabama's Nike Pro Combats were very nice. Subtle changes that honor the past. I do not mind that. But wholesale changes and wearing all one color (unitard) looks ridiculous.

The new Fresno State Bulldog uniforms are awful. Nike has this obsession with being innovative, even when the design elements are terrible. One of the many mistakes they make on their uniforms is that they are designed to be looked at up close. The absolute best uniforms look good from a distance AND up close.

Let me correct goDAWGSsicem above. The last year for our silver helmets was 1963. I prefer we keep the red helmets for this game, but Nike, unfortunately, is our design leader.

  • Rumor is the key word here. The only thing we know is that the jerseys will be red. So, let's just wait for August 20th to roll around, and we'll all know for sure.

  • I'm sick of people against changing certain parts of the uniform. It's one game and if it excites the players and they like it, that's really all that matters. They're the ones who are wearing them, so let Nike take their money and let the kids have fun.
