Stuck in last place in the SEC East and riding the season out under interim head coach Pete Herrmann, the Georgia Bulldogs shot lights out and shocked the Kentucky Wildcats 90-85 at Rupp Arena. Senior Terrence Woodbury led the Dawgs with 30 points.
Three other Bulldog players scored in double-figures: Trey Thompkins (19), Dustin Ware (18) and Corey Butler (13). The performances by Thompkins and Ware show what this Bulldog team can be in the future under a new head coach and the addition of a few shooters (Woodbury graduates this year).
For the Wildcats, the loss is a major disappointment and a blow to their NCAA Tournament chances. The Florida Gators are also in a similar situation with an 88-86 loss to Georgia on their resume.
Up next for the Dawgs is their final regular-season game against South Carolina at Stegeman Coliseum on Saturday. The game time is 2:00 p.m. ET and it will be televised by Raycom. After that, the Dawgs will play on Thursday, March 12 in the first-round of the SEC Tournament. Their opponent is still undetermined.
