UGA football junior defensive back Malaki Starks has been named to the 2024 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, it was announced on Thursday.

The Wuerffel Trophy, named after former Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel, is presented by the All Sports Association of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., to the college football player who “…best combines exemplary community service with leadership achievement on and off the field.”

Starks is one of 111 players from the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) named to the 2024 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List.

“I am deeply honored to see such outstanding individuals nominated for this year’s Allstate Wuerffel Trophy,” said Wuerffel. “Their commitment to serving others and making a positive impact in their communities is truly inspiring. Throughout my life and career, I have always believed in the importance of putting others before yourself and striving to make a difference. These nominees exemplify those values, and I am proud to celebrate their dedication to humanitarian efforts and selfless service.”

Last year, UGA’s Ladd McConkey was named the winner of the annual Wuerffel Trophy.

The winner of the 2024 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy will be formally announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 12 on ESPN, and the presentation of the award will occur on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025.

Malaki Starks, who hails from Jefferson, Ga., started at defensive back in all 14 games last season. He finished the season with 52 total tackles and also recorded two interceptions, which resulted in him being named a 2023 Consensus All-America First Team player.

The Georgia Bulldogs are set to open the 2024 season against the Clemson Tigers in the Aflac Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga., on Saturday, Aug. 31. The game will be televised live by ABC at noon ET (Buy Tickets).
