Report: Faton Bauta to start vs. Florida

Junior quarterback Faton Bauta will start at quarterback against the Florida Gators on Saturday, according to a report by GridironNow.com.

The report is by Mike Huguenin. Before you start saying the source is bogus, GridironNow also employs Tony Barnhart, an expert in SEC football that previously worked for the AJC and other reputable outlets.

Bauta (6-3, 215) is a native of West Palm Beach, Florida. As a Bulldog, he has played in 14 games, recording 10 rushes for 46 yards and two touchdowns, and 48 yards via 4-of-5 passes.

Georgia has struggled so far this season with junior Greyson Lambert at the helm. Although Lambert has led UGA to a 5-2 record, the offense has been lackluster the past three weeks.

Heading into the bye week, head coach Mark Richt stated that he would use it as a “mini Spring-ball.”

“The big thing is we want to get back to working fundamentals, and competition too,” Richt said. “We’re gonna let everybody know that it’s kind of like a mini-spring ball this week, in regard to everybody getting opportunity to get work, and get a chance to show what they can do again.”

Based on the report, it looks like Faton Bauta showed the coaches enough to earn the start on Saturday against rival Florida.

Redshirt sophomore Brice Ramsey has apparently been unable to move up the depth chart. In his most significant action this season against Alabama, Ramsey was 1-for-6 with 2 interceptions.

Georgia and Florida meet on Saturday at 3:30pm ET on CBS. If in fact Faton Bauta is starting for the Dawgs, we’ll see exactly what he can or cannot do.

  • If this is true, I just hope they are not making a big, big, big mistake. The Quarterbacks Coach & Coach Ritch needs to take QB Grayson Lambert in and give him a good talk and let him know right up that this game may depend on him playing as he did in the game he made such a good show and played a 98% pass rate. We all know he can do it and he should show that he can again, so talk to him Coaches, then give him a chance; if then he fails, BENCH HIM!!

  • Lamebert has proven he's only good against really bad defenses! With that said I'm curious about this report and the fact that DAWGNATION UGAs biggest media outlet isn't reporting this story. We definitely need a shakeup just not sure about this then again I'm of the opinion we simply don't have a competent QB this season anyway however I'm always screaming GO DAWGS! Because I am and always will be a Dawg

    • Me 2, I watched Lambert and thought he was good but will have to say he has not met competition yet.. But as you say, Tucker; I Will Also Always Be A Dawg!! DAWGS Just Dig Your Paws IN And Get You Some Good "GATOR TAIL.."

  • Bauta has waited for his turn and the way the other quarterbacks have been playing it's time for him to show the Dawg Nation what he can do, I think we will be pleasantly surprised !
