Georgia and Florida State have officially canceled their scheduled home‑and‑home series for 2027-28, with both programs now working toward a future neutral‑site matchup instead.

The move had been expected since last fall, when the Athens Banner‑Herald first reported that the schools were exploring a shift to a neutral‑site game—potentially in 2028.

Georgia had been set to travel to Tallahassee on September 4, 2027, with the Seminoles coming to Athens on September 16, 2028. The agreement, announced back in 2019, included a $2 million cancellation fee for each game.

“Georgia and Florida State have mutually agreed it is in the best interest of both schools to cancel our home-and-home series scheduled for 2027 and 2028, with the focus shifting to a future neutral site contest between the two programs,” Georgia’s J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Josh Brooks said.  “While we are still early in the process regarding neutral site plans, we remain optimistic and look forward to further conversations with Florida State.”

FSU Vice President and Director of Athletics Michael Alford also released a statement on the cancellation.

“As we considered the effects of evolving scheduling mandates within both the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Southeastern Conference, we have mutually agreed that it is in the best interest of both schools to cancel our home‑and‑home series scheduled for 2027 and 2028,” Alford said. “We are now discussing playing a future neutral‑site contest, and we are optimistic we will get that done. Importantly, this change will not reduce the total home games on our schedule moving forward.”

Georgia’s future schedules now open up slightly. For 2027, the Dawgs currently have only one non‑conference opponent locked in (at Georgia Tech). The 2028 slate includes home games against FAMU and Georgia Tech, with room to add a marquee matchup if the neutral‑site talks with FSU materialize.

For now, the long‑anticipated Georgia–Florida State home‑and‑home is off the books—but the possibility of a high‑profile neutral‑site showdown remains very much alive.
