Bulldogs fall in Charleston Classic Championship to Clemson, 97-94

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Georgia men’s basketball team (6-1) fell to the Clemson Tigers (6-1) on Sunday afternoon in the championships of the Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic, 97-94. Sophomore guard Jeremiah Wilkinson led all scorers with a season-high 26 points.

• Blue Cain and Somto Cyril joined Wilkinson in double-digit scoring with 19 and 11 points, respectively.

“Disappointing that we came out on the short end. It was a high-level game. Two good teams. Clemson is a very good, just really skilled team, big team. Out-rebounded us by 10. Shot it really well. Made 11 threes. Shared it, passed it. Their rebounding advantage over us was not offset enough. Their size advantage, their ability to play two bigs and produce with two bigs was not offset by our ability to turn them over. In fact, they turned us over more than we turned them over. They’re good, and I thought we did a lot of good things, of course. Probably the best we’ve played. I know it was a loss. We’ve got a long way to go. It’s a long process. We’ll continue to get better. I love the fight. We found ourselves early second half in a tough spot. We found ourselves early overtime in a tough spot. Showed a lot of resilience, showed some connection. We’ve got to be more connected, especially that last possession offensively for us. Wish we could have that one back, which whether or not they were going to foul, we didn’t even give ourselves a really good chance at a decent look. But, yeah, credit Clemson. They’re very good.
