The Mobile Press-Register is reporting that Kirby Smart will remain as defensive coordinator at Alabama rather than accepting the same position at Georgia.
The article referred to a quote from Nick Saban from the Rolando McClain press conference:
“Kirby (Smart) is going to be staying here at the University of Alabama with us,” Saban said.
Since this appears to be true, Georgia has again missed on a top tier defensive coordinator. Bud Foster and John Chavis have also spurned Georgia, although neither had concrete “offers” from Mark Richt.
Georgia may now turn to Dallas Cowboys DL coach Todd Grantham. Other rumored names include Buffalo Bills (NFL) DL Coach Bob Sanders, South Carolina Asst. Head Coach/DC Ellis Johnson, former Virginia head coach Al Groh and Air Force DC Tim DeRuyter.
This makes me sick to my stomach. Does anyone want to coach defense at the University of Georgia?
