The Georgia Bulldogs have canceled their football game in 2028 with the Florida A&M Rattlers, the Athens Banner-Herald has reported.
Georgia and Florida A&M signed a contract to play the game back in 2020, which was scheduled for September 9, 2028 at Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga. UGA agreed to pay Florida A&M a $650,000 guarantee, and the agreement also called for a $650,000 penalty if the game was canceled for reasons other than by mutual consent.
According to the report, Georgia and Florida A&M mutually agreed to cancel the game and the Bulldogs will not have to pay the Rattlers a cancellation fee. The Athens Banner-Herald learned of the cancellation after obtaining a January 13 letter between the schools via an open records request to UGA.
Georgia now has one opening on its 2028 non-conference schedule. The Bulldogs are scheduled to host Georgia Tech in Athens on November 25 and will also reportedly face Florida State at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., on a date to be announced.
The Georgia Bulldogs are scheduled to open the 2026 season on Saturday, September 5 against the Tennessee State Tigers at Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga. The game will kickoff at 3:00pm ET and will be a streaming-only event on SEC Network+.
