The Georgia Bulldogs’ highly anticipated home-and-home football series with Florida State may not play out as originally planned. Instead, the two programs are exploring the idea of shifting the series to a single, neutral-site game showdown in Tampa, Fla., according to the Athens Banner-Herald.
Georgia reportedly initiated the talks, which are still ongoing. As things stand now, the Bulldogs are scheduled to travel to Tallahassee to face the Seminoles at Doak Campbell Stadium on Sept. 4, 2027, before hosting FSU at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga., on Sept. 16, 2028. Those matchups were announced back in 2019 and include a $2 million cancellation fee for each game.
Athletic director Josh Brooks has emphasized a year-by-year approach when it comes to scheduling marquee nonconference opponents. “The first focus is going to be on ’26 and then ’27 and moving on,” Brooks said in September.
This isn’t the first time Georgia has looked to adjust future schedules. Earlier this week, news broke that the Bulldogs and Louisville agreed to scrap their home-and-home series slated for 2026 and 2027. Instead, the two schools plan to meet at a neutral site down the road.
Georgia and NC State also agreed to ax their home-and-home series that was slated for 2033 and 2034.
For Dawg fans, the takeaway is clear: Georgia is keeping flexibility at the forefront of its scheduling strategy, ensuring the program can line up the biggest possible matchups while balancing the demands of the new nine-game SEC slate.
