Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have struck again, and this time, it’s a massive in-state win that should have Dawg fans buzzing. Four-star running back Jae Lamar out of Colquitt County High School has officially committed to the University of Georgia, choosing the Dawgs over Miami in a hotly contested battle for one of the premier playmakers in the 2026 class.

Lamar, a 5-foot-11, 195-pound back with elite burst, power through contact, and home-run speed, has long been on Georgia’s radar. From the start, the Bulldogs made it clear that keeping Lamar home was a top priority, and now that persistence has paid off.

Considering the recent back-and-forth between Georgia and Miami on the recruiting trail, this commitment carries even more weight. The Hurricanes recently landed the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2026 class — five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell — in a stinging blow to UGA’s efforts. Miami also flipped longtime Georgia wide receiver commit Vance Spafford earlier this week. Beating the Hurricanes out for Lamar, especially after those two major headlines, makes this win on the trail that much sweeter for the Dawgs.

Lamar also continues a major hot streak for Georgia on the recruiting front. He becomes the third blue-chip prospect to commit to the Bulldogs this week, joining four-star EDGE Khamari Brooks and towering defensive lineman Corey Howard, who announced their pledges on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. In addition to that trio, Georgia also picked up recent commitments from top offensive tackle Ekene Ogboko and athletic linebacker Shadarius Toodle, bringing even more firepower to what’s shaping up to be one of the nation’s premier 2026 classes.

Now, Georgia fans can celebrate bringing home one of the most electric rushers in the country. Lamar’s skill set fits perfectly into what UGA has built at the position over the years, joining a lineage that includes names like Nick Chubb, Sony Michel, and D’Andre Swift. He becomes the next elite to trust Georgia’s developmental pipeline and championship culture.

Lamar is Georgia’s 21st commitment in the 2026 class and another example of how Josh Crawford is making his mark as the Bulldogs’ running backs coach. The Colquitt County star is staying home, and the G just got stronger.
