Due to major construction work, the annual football clash between the Georgia Bulldogs and Florida Gators will temporarily leave its usual Jacksonville venue, which was announced last fall.

In 2026, the game will shift to Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, with AMB Sports & Entertainment, owned by Atlanta Falcons proprietor Arthur Blank, agreeing to pay each university $7.5 million. This figure significantly exceeds the payout of roughly $5 to $5.5 million each school typically receives in Jacksonville.

After the Atlanta game, the contest moves south in 2027 to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., although financial details for that matchup remain under discussion. Despite playing away from Jacksonville, Florida will still receive annual compensation of $1.5 million from Jacksonville for 2026 and 2027, totaling $3 million each.

The temporary relocation coincides with Jacksonville’s ambitious $1.4 billion upgrade of EverBank Stadium, aimed at enhancing the fan experience and updating facilities for NFL and college events. The rivalry, traditionally held in Jacksonville every year since 1933 (except for interruptions during the 1994 and 1995 renovations), is set to return from 2028 through 2031. For these games, Jacksonville has guaranteed payments of at least $10 million per school in 2028 and 2029, increasing slightly to $10.5 million annually in 2030 and 2031.

Marc Weiszer detailed further logistical agreements outlined in a non-binding memorandum, including provisions for up to $500,000 in travel funds for each university. Ticket distribution will initially prioritize Mercedes-Benz Stadium club seat holders, followed by season ticket holders, school donors, and the general public.

AMB Sports & Entertainment will assume costs for stadium operations, staffing, and taxes, providing Mercedes-Benz Stadium rent-free. In return, they will retain all revenue generated through ticket sales, premium seating, concessions, and parking. Despite these arrangements, Georgia and Florida will maintain influence over the stadium’s visual presentation and in-game atmosphere, preserving the traditional neutral-site feel.

While the location might change temporarily, institutions and their supporters remain dedicated to maintaining this classic matchup’s competitive spirit and traditions. The Southeastern Conference will finalize scheduling details, ensuring the rivalry remains a highlight of the college football season during its brief relocation.
