C.J. Allen named SEC Freshman of the Week for second time

UGA football true freshman linebacker C.J. Allen has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, the SEC announced on Monday.

C.J. Allen, a native of Barnesville, Ga., was named SEC Freshman of the Week following his performance in the 31-23 victory over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Saturday at Hyundai Field at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta, Ga. Starting for the third consecutive game in place of the injured Jumas Dumas-Johnson, Allen had a game-high eight tackles and helped hold the Yellow Jackets to just three points over the second and third quarters and to just 2-for-11 on third downs.

Allen was previously named SEC Freshman of the Week for his performance in the 52-17 victory at home over the ninth-ranked Ole Miss Rebels on November 11. Allen led the Bulldogs with nine tackles and one sack.

Georgia is set to face the Alabama Crimson Tide in the 2023 SEC Championship Game on Saturday, Dec. 2 (Buy Tickets). The contest will kickoff at 4:00pm ET with television coverage via CBS.
