UGA football true freshman linebacker C.J. Allen has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week, the SEC announced on Monday.

C.J. Allen, a native of Barnesville, Ga., was named SEC Freshman of the Week following his performance in the 52-17 victory at home over the ninth-ranked Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday. Starting in his first game in place of the injured Jumas Dumas-Johnson, Allen led the Bulldogs with nine tackles and one sack.

From the UGA release:

Allen is the first Bulldog defensive player to earn the honor since Malaki Starks garnered the award after the win over No. 1 Tennessee last year.

This marks the 10th SEC weekly honors for the Bulldogs this season.  Junior C Sedrick Van Pran was named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week on Sept. 18 for Georgia’s first weekly honor this season.  Junior ILB Smael Mondon (Defensive Player) and freshman PK Peyton Woodring (Freshman) earned the honors after the road win over Auburn.  Woodring was again named the league’s Co-Freshman after the win over No. 20 Kentucky while junior QB Carson Beck was the SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week.  Woodring won his third straight Freshman honor after the win at Vanderbilt.  Junior WR Ladd McConkey garnered SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time after Georgia downed Florida.  Senior DL Nazir Stackhouse (Defensive Lineman) and Woodring (Special Teams) were honored after the Bulldogs’ win over No. 12 Missouri.

The Bulldogs’ next game is on Saturday, Nov. 18 against the 13th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn. The game will be televised by CBS at 3:30pm ET (Buy Tickets).

The following week on Saturday, Nov 25, Georgia will wrap up the regular-season against the in-state rival Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta, Ga. (Buy Tickets).

Georgia also clinched the SEC East on Saturday and will face the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship Game on Saturday, Dec. 2 (Buy Tickets). The game will be televised by CBS at 4:00pm ET.
