UGA football junior wide receiver Ladd McConkey has been named to the 2023 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, it was announced on Thursday.

The Wuerffel Trophy, named after former Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel, is presented by the All Sports Association of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., to the college football player who “…best combines exemplary community service with leadership achievement on and off the field.”

McConkey is one of 108 players from the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) named to the 2023 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List.

“The life changing impact of thinking of others before ourselves is so rewarding, and it’s truly inspiring to see so many student-athletes recognize this, and use their platform for good,” said Danny Wuerffel. “College Football players across the country are making a difference in their communities, and I’m excited to see so many incredible stories associated with the 2023 Wuerffel Trophy candidates.”

The winner of the 2023 Wuerffel Trophy will be formally announced on Dec. 7 or 8, and the presentation of the award will occur on Friday, Feb. 17, 2024.

Ladd McConkey, who hails from Chatsworth, Ga., has amassed 89 receptions, 1209 yards, and 12 touchdowns during his two seasons in Athens. He also has 11 rushes for 178 yards and three touchdowns.

Earlier this week, Ladd McConkey was named to the watch list for the 2023 William V. Campbell Trophy, an annual award that “…recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.”

The national champion Georgia Bulldogs are scheduled to open the 2023 season on Saturday, Sept. 2 against the UT Martin Skyhawks at Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga.
