UGA football standout Brock Bowers has been named to the 2023 Walter Camp Player of the Year Watch List, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced on Friday.

Brock Bowers is among 45 “players to watch” for the Walter Camp Player of the Year award, which is the nation’s fourth-oldest individual college football accolade.

“We are proud to continue the great work of Walter Camp and recognize the best college football players in the nation,” Foundation president Tony Mortali said. “This watch list is a great start to what is shaping up to be another exciting year of college football.”

In mid-November, the watch list will be narrowed to 10 semi-finalists. The winner of the 2023 Walter Camp National Player of the Year will be announced live on ESPN on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Thursday, Dec. 7. The winner will then receive his trophy at the Foundation’s 57th annual national awards banquet in New Haven, Conn in early 2024.

Brock Bowers is a 6-foot-4, 230-pound junior tight end from Napa, Calif. In his two seasons in Athens, Bowers has caught 119 passes for 1,824 yards (15.3 avg.) and 20 touchdowns. He has also rushed 13 times for 165 yards and four touchdowns.

Last season, Bowers won the John Mackey Award, which is given annually to the nation’s most outstanding collegiate tight end.

The back-to-back national champion Georgia Bulldogs are scheduled to open the 2023 season on Saturday, Sept. 2 against the UT Martin Skyhawks at Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga. (Buy Tickets).
