UGA basketball to open 2023-24 season against Oregon in Las Vegas
The Georgia Bulldogs will open the 2023-24 season against the Oregon Ducks in Las Vegas, the school officially announced on Wednesday.
Georgia and Oregon will square off at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Monday, Nov. 6, 2023 in a contest that is part of the Naismith Hall of Fame Series. Georgia-Oregon is one contest of a quadruple-header that will also feature USC vs. Kansas State and two women’s contests.
“The start of the season is obviously always exciting, but it’s even more so considering we’ll be playing on a national stage in a premier event like the Hall of Fame Series in Las Vegas,” head coach Mike White said. “We’re looking forward to the challenge of representing the SEC against Oregon, which traditionally is one of the Pac-12’s top programs year in and year out.”
Georgia and Oregon have only faced each other in basketball one time in their history. The Ducks defeated the Bulldogs in that contest, 87-74, on Dec. 20, 1975 in the IU Classic in Bloomington, Ind.
The Bulldogs are also set to play in the 2023 Baha Mar Bahamas Hoops Championship, an annual preseason college basketball tournament that is held at the Baha Mar Convention Center in Nassau, Bahamas. Games will be played Friday, Nov. 17 through Sunday, Nov. 19.
Georgia will open the tournament facing the Miami Hurricanes and will then play either the Kansas State Wildcats or Providence Friars in the second contest.
“I’ve said we wanted our non-conference schedule to be tougher this season, and the Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas Championship is certainly a major factor in accomplishing that goal,” Georgia head coach Mike White said. “To face Miami, a 2023 Final Four team, and either Kansas State or Providence, both NCAA Tournament teams last season, in a three-day span in November will provide us with a great barometer of where we are early in the season. The tournament also will give our players the incredible experience of visiting the Baha Mar Resort in The Bahamas.”
In other home non-conference action this season at Stegeman Coliseum, Georgia is scheduled to host Wake Forest on Friday, Nov. 10, Mount St. Mary’s on Wednesday, Dec. 20, North Florida on Friday, Dec. 22, Alabama A&M on Saturday, Dec. 30, and Georgia Tech on a date to be announced. The remainder of Georgia’s non-conference schedule will be reported over the next few months.
The 2023-24 season will be the second under head coach Mike White. The Bulldogs finished the 2022-23 season 16-16 overall (6-12 SEC), a 10-win improvement over the previous season.
