Georgia selected as NCAA Regional Host, earns No. 4 Seed
The Georgia Bulldogs have been selected as a 2019 NCAA Baseball Regional Host and have earned a No. 4 seed in the tournament, the NCAA announced this weekend.
Georgia finished the regular-season 44-15 overall and 21-9 in regular-season SEC play. The Bulldogs were eliminated from the SEC Tournament by Ole Miss in the semifinals, 5-3.
This will be Georgia’s 12th appearance in an NCAA Regional and it will also mark the sixth time that the Bulldogs have hosted a Regional at Foley Field in Athens.
“We are thrilled to be back in the NCAA Tournament,” said UGA baseball head coach Scott Stricklin. “The opportunity to be a host for the second year in a row is a credit to how this veteran team has performed all year along with the support of our fans and administration. We look forward to playing again at Foley Field in front of our fans. They have provided us a big advantage this year and one of the reasons we are 28-3 at home.”
The three other teams in the Athens Regional include Florida Atlantic (40-19), Florida State (36-21), and Mercer (35-27). Georgia will open against Mercer on Friday, May 31 at 7:00pm ET and the game will be televised by the SEC Network.
Georgia-Mercer will follow the first game, Florida Atlantic vs. Florida State, which begins at noon ET and will be streamed via ESPN3.
The losers will meet in the first game on Saturday afternoon, followed by the winners on Saturday evening (times TBA). Since Regional play is double-elimination, the action will continue on Sunday and, if necessary, on Monday.
Should the Bulldogs win the Athens Regional, they would advance to a Super Regional to take on the winner of the Baton Rouge Regional (LSU, Arizona State, Southern Miss, and Stony Brook) June 7-10.
