Update (7/23/14, 10:45am ET): Jonathan Taylor remains in jail. Bond has been set at $5,000 for his aggravated assault charge.
UGA defensive lineman Jonathan Taylor was arrested early Tuesday morning in Athens and charged with aggravated assault/family violence.
The Athens Banner-Herald’s Marc Weiszer first reported the news today after discovering Taylor’s name on the inmate log of the Athens-Clarke County Sheriff website.
According to the log, Jonathan Maurice Taylor, born in 1993, was arrested at 6:08am ET and remains in jail on no bond due to the charge being classified as family violence.
This is the second infraction for Taylor. He was one of four Bulldogs arrested in March on Theft by Deception charges. In that infraction, the players were alleged to have “double-dipped” their student stipend checks by attempting to deposit them twice.

Police determined that Taylor was the “primary aggressor” in a domestic violence incident at McWhorter Hall, according to University of Georgia police chief Jimmy Williamson.
UGA police and EMS were dispatched at 2:47 a.m. to meet a possible victim at Busbee Hall. The call came from a third party. Police met with the victim and third party at Busbee.
There was evidence that the female victim had been “possibly strangled by the offender,” in the incident in Taylor’s dorm room, Williamson said. There was evidence that the victim and another individual had been involved in an argument in McWhorter Hall, police said. Officers determined an established relationship and “co-habitation” with the individuals.
The victim is a UGA student not enrolled in summer school.
Since the charge is a felony, Jonathan Taylor is immediately suspended from athletic competition according to UGA policy.
Last season, Taylor recorded nine tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and one sack. The rising redshirt sophomore hails from Millen, Georgia.

These athletes (some of them) have no clue as to the value of a college degree. Mr. Taylor has likely stamped his own ticket out of Athens waving goodbye to a free education many would die for. He has also (or should have to) given up the privilege of suiting up for the Red & Black. This has been another disappointing off season with dismissals, transfers, etc. Well, we need athletes who are proud to represent UGA on and off the field. I'm sorry that Mr. Taylor made the decision to not desire to be a part of this team or University. Hopefully, his scholarship will be given to a student athlete who wants to excel on and off the gridiron.
People make mistakes, when he is given a second chance at another college, then what will people say? And by the way he is my nephew so keep your comment to yourself!
