Photo: Todd Gurley in black UGA football jersey

One of the more controversial topics among UGA football fans are the uniforms. Most like the traditional red jersey for home games and the white for road games.

Back in 2007 and 2008, Georgia wore black alternate jerseys in three games, but they haven’t seen the light of day since.

Last November, a picture was posted to Twitter, reportedly by a graduate assistant, that depicted an all black UGA uniform with Chris Conley’s name and number (31).

Fans then called for a Blackout of the Kentucky game for Aaron Murray and the Seniors. Mark Richt would later shoot down that possibility.

“If I had black jerseys to give them, I’d have them wear them. We just don’t have them” Richt stated. “I don’t know if that’s going to break everybody’s heart or not, but we don’t have any black jerseys in stock. If we did, I’d be all for it.”

We still haven’t heard anything about the possibility of an alternate uniform for the 2014 season. But to fill that void in our lives, @DawgsOnTop1980 has photoshopped an image of Todd Gurley to give him a black jersey and a black helmet.

Looks pretty cool. What do you think of the black jersey/helmet combo? Let us know in the comments below.

  • I love the Black Uniform, but I want to see Red Helmets if we go Black. Our colors are Red and Black. It's nice to actually see the uniforms display both colors prominently as I think it's one of the best color combinations in the NCAA.

    • Matt, I agree with every single word of your Post. The Red Helmet, and Black Jersey provide the best balance of school colors the team has ever worn, and when teamed up with real silver britches, the uniform honors the careers of three of the most successful head coaches in UGA history. Wally Butts, Vince Dooley, and Mark Richt. You want "Tradition?" I think that pretty much sums it up!

  • I like both. Kids (players) would LOVE both. SEC championships are not won with uniforms, but they also aren't won by 30-50 year-old men who sit in in their living rooms and watch each Saturday. I hate what Oregon does, and our pro-combat jerseys sucked when they could have been awesome, but there is a happy medium to be found, especially when you have as great of colors as we have.

  • the echo is unending...."no black helmets ever again......." black jerseys, if they play studly and deserve it, but *in my best Darth Vader impression*......"no black helmets ever again."

  • I am excited about the “more silver silver britches”. The only uniform wrinkle I’ve been in favor of lately was wearing the black jerseys with no other change in uniform (only red helmets please!). I would really like to see the Dawgs don the black once a year (last home game, senior day maybe?). I have memories of the Dawgs wearing red pants on the road. I think that would be badass to do that maybe once a year also. I too believe UGA has the best looking uniforms in football!! But at the same time, why not throw in an occasional wrinkle? A nod to our history (red britches on the road once every couple seasons), and also the future (black jerseys at home once every season or even every other one?). Just please, oh please, no more red on red or black pants or helmets!! Go Dawgs!!!

  • - black jerseys once in a while when we're the home team
    - red britches once in a while when we're the away team
    - other than that, red jersey/silver britches when we're home, white jersey/silver britches when we're away, red helmet all the time

    - make the silver britches actually silver and not gray
    - make the white jersey collars and arm cuffs black instead of red
    - predominantly black cleats all the time
    - black socks all the time
