Shaq Jones Flips Commitment from Louisville to Georgia

Shaq Jones, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound cornerback from Palm Bay, FL (Merritt Island), has flipped his verbal commitment from Louisville to Georgia, the Athens Banner-Herald has reported.

Jones took an official visit to Georgia over the weekend and reportedly committed to the Bulldogs. He was recruited by new UGA defensive assistant Kevin Sherrer while he was at South Alabama.

“From all indications I have, that’s where he’s going to go,” Merritt Island head football coach Jeff McLean told the ABH. “He said that he liked it. …I would say he’s committed.”

Jones committed to Louisville on Jan. 22. He also has offers from Florida A&M and South Alabama and has received late interest from Miami (FL), UCF, and others.

247Sports rates Jones as a 2-star recruit, the No. 198 cornerback, and the 334th overall player in Florida. Rivals.com also rates Jones as a 2-star recruit, while Scout.com rates him three-stars.

National Signing Day is Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014.

  • Them Georgia Bulldogs sure know how to show a recruit around the facilities. Georgia must've gave Shaq Jones the VIP express.

  • Watched Shaq's film and he looks like one whale of a corner. He has the length and height to handle larger WRs. I heard someone report that SJ has a 37" vertical jump. I hope our secondary does an about face in 2014 including more picks, passes knocked down, hard hits (see Seattle's DBs in Super Bowl) and intimidation of enemy WRs.
