The Georgia Bulldogs racked up a school record 713 total yards en route to a 56-20 blowout win over the Florida Atlantic Owls.

Quarterback Aaron Murray finished with a career record 342 yards passing. He completed 14-of-19 passes with two touchdowns through the air and two on the ground.

With the win, Georgia improves to 3-0 overall (1-0 SEC). This is the first season the Bulldogs have started 3-0 since 2008. That year, Georgia finished 10-3 overall and beat Michigan State in the Capital One Bowl.

With All-American linebacker Jarvis Jones sidelined with a groin and shoulder injury, the Bulldogs defense got off to a shaky start. FAU racked up 157 yards of offense in the first quarter and added another 105 in the second quarter.

Late in the first quarter, the Owls tied the game at 7 on a 43-yard touchdown run. Then early in the second quarter, the Owls capped off an 87-yard drive with another rushing touchdown to tie the game at 14.

After that score, the Georgia defense shut down FAU. The Owls managed a mere 50 yards of offense in the second half and only scored one defensive touchdown.

Freshman Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall both eclipsed 100-yards on the ground for the Bulldogs. Gurley had 111 yards on 10 carries and one touchdown, while Marshall rushed 10 times for 104 yards and a TD.

Wide receiver Michael Bennett had a career day for the Bulldogs. The sophomore caught four passes for 110 yards and a touchdown. His 67-yard TD reception late in the first half put the Dawgs up 28-14.

Tight end Arthur Lynch was also a top target for Aaron Murray. Lynch caught three passes for 73 yards, including a 36-yard touchdown reception to open the second half.

Next up for the Bulldogs is a visit from Vanderbilt on Saturday, Sept. 22. The game will be televised by ESPN2 at 7:45 p.m. ET.

  • Congrattttttts Dog! I Still need to see a better ball fake or Pump from Murray that little Shoulder Nudge he doing is not goimg to work against Alabama or LSU. Also, we have (2) 350 lb Nose Tackles that I would Like to see going @ 200% pace for half the game rather than 50% for the whole game. Since both are consider very close in competition, this would keep them fresher, might eliminate injury, and we see what is very good Nose turn into great nose tacke play. Ala., qnd LSU rotate there best Lineman in and out almost every Play. Also I'M very disappointed in our
defences backfield play even though we are missing players, especially Brandon Smith. This has to improved we want to Claim a National Championship this year (2012), We have the players. My last comment is I like to see more of Richard Samual @ Fullback. He's paid his dues flip flop all over the place Tailback, Linebacker and I thick this would help him move to next Level, the more position you play in the NFL the better chance you have if you not a great talent and I think he has enough to play on Sunday, Special teams, big with speed and Fullback. Let Help The Total Team Player Out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • We need to look at film of Alabama. Dicipline is what I see. Plus 11 in turnover margin - only one fumble at the end of the first half of one game. And there is no 'acting out" after a touchdown or good play os made. The ball is simply handed to to the ref after TD's. And they have very few penalties. Balls ecurity is a must for them. At practice they have to hold onto the ball after the play is over until they get back to the huddle. These things I mention have been a constant for the past 3-4 years. If I were Coach Richt i would pay attention to this. We have the talent to be up there with the best 3 teams in the Nation. Go Dawgs!
