2012 Georgia Football Schedule won’t be released before Christmas

The 2012 Georgia Bulldogs football schedule will not be officially released this week, the SEC announced this morning.

According to the SEC release on Twitter, the conference is still “working through final stages of 2012 SEC football schedule. We’ll release once it’s complete, but not before Christmas.”

UGA athletics director Greg McGarity indicated last week that he thought the schedule would be released this week (Monday or Tuesday). Obviously, that didn’t happen.

Despite the delayed release, several tidbits about Georgia’s 2012 schedule are starting to emerge. Last week, Eric Blumberg of KOMU8-TV in Columbia, MO tweeted that the Bulldogs would travel to face Missouri and would be the Tigers’ first SEC opponent.

Today, SportsTalkGoLive.com reported that “…the Bulldogs will play at Missouri in their SEC opener in the second week of the season. And the annual showdown with the Gamecocks, this season set for Columbia, will be played the first week in October.”

That won’t sit well with Gamecock fans, as they are used to facing a lightweight season-opener followed by Georgia. South Carolina loves to get the Dawgs early in the season. And five of the past seven seasons, the Gamecocks have played their opener on a Thursday night which gives them an extra two days of preparation and rest.

Other SEC games for the Dawgs in 2012 will include home games vs. Tennessee and Vanderbilt and road games vs. Auburn and Kentucky. Georgia will also play Florida in Jacksonville.

The eighth and final SEC game remains up in the air. Georgia was slated to host Ole Miss and travel to Alabama, but that was before Missouri and Texas A&M were added to the conference. The most plausible scenario would be to drop Alabama and host Ole Miss since the Dawgs played in Oxford in 2011.

Georgia’s non-conference slate includes Buffalo (Sept. 1), Florida Atlantic (Sept. 15), Georgia Southern (Nov. 17) and Georgia Tech (Nov. 24).

Based on the rumors mentioned above, here is what I think the 2012 Georgia football schedule will look like:

  • 09/01 – Buffalo
  • 09/08 – at Missouri
  • 09/15 – Florida Atlantic
  • 09/22 – Vanderbilt
  • 09/29 – Tennessee
  • 10/06 – at South Carolina
  • 10/13 – at Kentucky
  • 10/20 – Open Date
  • 10/27 – Florida (at Jacksonville, FL)
  • 11/03 – Ole Miss
  • 11/10 – at Auburn
  • 11/17 – Georgia Southern
  • 11/24 – Georgia Tech

  • I think we will play Alabama in Athens instead of Ole Miss. I think that game will be played on 9/29. Look for Tenn or Vandy to move into that November spot.

  • Nice to see the Dawgs adopting the SEC way of scheduling early. Good riddance to the Top 5 match-up for the first game of the season in my opinion.

  • Nice to see Ga Southern the week before Tech. Basically gives as 2 weeks with a practice game to prepare for the triple-option.

  • If the SEC doesn't go to a 9-game conference schedule, you UGA season ticket holders will get to see the likes of Bama, LSU, and A&M in Athens only once every 12 years! I'd be pissed, especially with a home slate loaded with the likes of Buffalo and FAU.

    • we have to go 2 a 9 game schedule once all 12 teams play all their scheduled non-conference games thats full? ugas is full for 12, 3, 14...i say 9 games in 2015.

  • 60-72 record of opponents this season, we play next season, by this schedule guess.

Sakerlina 10-2 beat UGA didn't play SECCG
Auburn 7-5 beat Sakerlina lost to UGA
Mizzou 7-5 beat no 1 (39 win% vs all SEC)
Georgia tek 8-4 lost 4 of last 6 & UGA
    12/1/12 SEC Champ Game

  • This is how I'd like it
    9/1- vs. Buffalo
    9/8- at South Carolina
    9/15- vs. Florida Atlantic
    9/22- vs. Vanderbilt
    9/29- vs. Tennessee
    10/6- at Alabama
    10/13- at Missouri
    10/20- BYE
    10/27- vs. Florida(at Jacksonville, FL)
    11/3- vs. Ole Miss
    11/10- at Auburn
    11/17- vs. Georgia Southern
    11/24- vs. Georgia Tech
In this scenario, Texas A&M and Mizzou go to the West division and Auburn moves to the East. Auburn would replace Kentucky as one of our East games, and Mizzou would take the Kentucky date.

    • Even if Auburn goes East, we would still have to play Kentucky. You would have to replace Alabama or Ole Miss with the Wildcats.

  • Dawgs and Tigers....good game...good luck Tigers youwill need it...maybe in 3-4 years you might have a chance
