Washington, 22, was pulled over for speeding (92 mph in a 55 mph zone) and driving under the influence by the Commerce Police Department. The police report indicated that his blood-alcohol level was .12. He was released from the Jackson County Jail this morning after posting a $3,500 bond.
The standard UGA punishment for this offense is 10% of competition, so Washington will likely miss this weekend’s Tennessee game at a minimum.
Washington, a junior from Hepzibah, Georgia, has recorded 7 tackles, 2 assists and 3.5 sacks so far this season.
Update: UGA head coach Mark Richt has suspended Washington for “at least” the next two games – at Tennessee (10/8) and at Vanderbilt (10/15).

I am not trying to mitigate Cornelius Washington's transgression, but here is another arrest that this blog should post later this morning. Mississippi State letterman last year, sophomore jersey # 5 Nickoe Whitley is captured on photo doing number 1 on our famed Georgia Hedges during the football game Saturday, 1 October 2011. This player should be arrested, and suspended from further SEC play, making the 70-man Mississippi State traveling roster. Their University should see to this, themselves.
