Diamond Dawgs earn 2011 NCAA Tournament Bid; face Creighton on Friday

SicEmDawgs.com

GeorgiaThe Diamond Dawgs have received an at-large bid to the 2011 NCAA Baseball Tournament. Georgia was placed in the Corvallis regional and will face Creighton on Friday, June 3.

The Dawgs finished the season 31-30 and 16-14 in the SEC. They had to win three games in the SEC Tournament to finish over .500 and be eligible to receive a big. Georgia accomplished that with a 3-2 win over Florida on Saturday, but a loss to the Gators later that day ended their SEC title hopes.

Georgia will be the no. 3 seed in the Corvallis, Oregon Regional. The Diamond Dawgs face no. 2 seed Creighton (44-14) on Friday, which will be the first ever meeting between the two schools. Oregon State is the no. 1 seed in the region while Arkansas-Little Rock is the no. 4 seed.

Like the SEC Tournament, the NCAA Regionals are double-elimination. The winner of the Regional will advance to the Super Regionals, which is a best two-of-three series.

Times and TV information for the NCAA Regionals will be announced soon (PDF Bracket).
