Five-star guard Kentavious Caldwell commits to Georgia

Five-star shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell has committed to Mark Fox and the Georgia Bulldogs. Caldwell is the second 2010-11 commitment for the Hoop Dawgs. Nick Marshall committed to UGA in June, but will play on a football scholarship.

The commitment of Caldwell is huge for the Georgia basketball program, which is slowly on the rise once again. Mark Fox has proven his wares on the court, and has now shown that he can attract big-time talent to Athens.

Caldwell (6-6, 185) committed to UGA over offers from Alabama, Auburn, Cincinnati, Clemson, Florida State, Indiana, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and Xavier.

Rivals.com ranks Caldwell as a 5-star recruit, no. 15 in the Rivals150 and the no. 5 shooting guard in the country. Scout.com also ranks him as a 5-star recruit and the no. 4 shooting guard.

  • Slowly on the rise? I think it's more like Fox has shifted from first gear to 5th gear. He's got this program in the fast lane. The last time there has been this much momentum was in '79...when Hugh Durham got Dominique Wilkins and Terry Fair in the same weekend. I pray we can keep coach Fox for a long, long time.

    • I say that because we did finish 14-17 last season, went winless on the road and did not make a tournament. We started off about as expected, not with a bang.
