DeMario Mayfield Requests Release from Scholarship
Georgia Bulldogs freshman guard DeMario Mayfield has requested to be released from his scholarship, UGASports.com ($) is reporting. Mayfield signed with Dennis Felton and UGA in November 2008.
Mayfield (6-4, 190), nicknamed “Day Day”, played in 18 games for the Bulldogs this season and averaged 0.9 points per game.
If Mayfield is released, Mark Fox and the Bulldogs would have three open scholarships. Fox intends to sign two recruits during the Spring 2010 signing period, but could add a third if necessary.
But he could also hold onto the scholarship for the talent-rich 2011 class, which includes UGA targets Julian Royal, Dai-Jon Parker, Kentavious Caldwell, Nick Marshall and Tim Dixon.
