Georgia basketball inks two during Fall 2008 signing period
The Fall 2008 college basketball signing period began on Wednesday, November 12, and the Georgia Bulldogs signed two recruits. Dennis Felton and the Bulldogs received Letters of Intent from center Daniel Miller and point guard DeMario Mayfield.
Miller (6-11, 235), is from Loganville, Georgia and plays for Loganville Christian Academy. As a Junior, Miller averaged 28.8 points, 12.3 rebounds, 7 blocks and 4.4 assists per game and led LCA to the championship of the Independent Christian Schools of Georgia-Alabama. He is rated as the 8th best center by ESPN.com and 9th best center by Rivals.com.
Mayfield (6-3, 180), is from Carnesville, Georgia and plays for Franklin County High School. As a Junior, Mayfield averaged 24.6 points, 6.3 assists and 4.9 rebounds per game. Mayfield committed to the Georgia Bulldogs over a year ago.
Georgia’s primary target for the 2008-09 class is 6-foot-9, 220 pound forward Derrick Favors of South Atlanta High School. Favors has decided not to sign during the Fall period and will wait until the Spring to make his decision. He is rated as the no. 1 player in the country by Scout.com and the no. 4 player by Rivals.com. Favors has plenty of offers, but lists his final four schools as Memphis, North Carolina State, Georgia and Georgia Tech.
The Bulldogs haven’t landed a top recruit since Louis Williams and Mike Mercer signed with the Dawgs back in 2004. Here’s hoping Dennis Felton and the Bulldogs can erase that trend with the signing of Favors. The Spring signing period runs from April 15 through May 22, 2009.
