Waiting on Kirby Smart

© RollTide.com

Well, the UGA nation is waiting on Kirby Smart to make a decision. Will he leave Alabama to become the next defensive coordinator of the Georgia Bulldogs?

Reports indicate that Smart has been offered the position and that he could make at least double the $360,000 he earned last season with the Crimson Tide.

If Smart turns Georgia down and remains at Alabama, the Dawgs may look towards Dallas Cowboys defensive line coach Todd Grantham. Last month, Mark Richt targeted Virginia Tech’s Bud Foster and LSU’s John Chavis. Both DC’s opted to remain at their respective schools.

Back to Kirby Smart, he would be a “home run” hire if the Dawgs can land him. He is one of the hottest assistants in college football and he won the Broyles Award, which goes to the nation’s top assistant.

We should know something this afternoon. What do you think Kirby Smart will decide?

Update (1:10 p.m. ET) – Still waiting….

  • Kevin that is EXACTLY what this feels like National Signing Day (sounds like an official holiday and day off)....man I need an official confirmation NOW

  • Actually I would rather see Todd Grantham in Athens. I think in the long run he would be a better fit and would stick around longer.

  • Well, from all the stuff I've been reading...Kirby's staying in AL. This did come from Nick Saban...if this is the case then it kind of stings, but there's nothing that can be done other than move on to the next candidate. The only thing that bothers me is that the word is that Kirby had agreed in principle to join the Bulldog Nation once again! Now, if he did indeed change his mind then why have we not heard anything from him? What's the problem here? This whole thing is rather nerve racking! I have felt confidence in Coach Richt the whole time, but rejection is never easy to deal with...and this is the first actual rejection if this is the case. Regardless there are more qualified candidates and I'm sure we will have a DC and D staff in due time...GO DAWGS!
