Basketball signing period begins Wednesday

The late basketball signing period begins on Wednesday, April 15. Currently, Mark Fox and the Georgia Bulldogs have no commitments for 2009. Hopefully that will change as Fox and his new coaching staff have been scouring the country for talented recruits.

One name that Fox appears to be targeting is point guard Vincent Williams of Homestead, Florida (South Dade H.S.). Williams (6-1, 155) averaged 26 points, 6.2 assists, 2.6 steals and 2.6 rebounds per game last season.

Fox traveled to Homestead over the weekend for a workout with Williams. Reports indicate that Fox made a great impression on him and Vincent will reportedly schedule a visit to Athens. John Herron, Williams’ high school coach, indicated that Georgia may hold a slight lead over Charlotte, Oklahoma, and N.C. State.

The Hoop Dawgs already have two recruits signed for 2009. DeMario Mayfield, a 6-3, 180-pound guard from Carnesville, Georgia and Daniel Miller, a 6-11, 235-pound center from Loganville, Georgia. Both players signed with UGA back in November and should be on campus this summer.

  • Did both of the M and M's sign?
Who else (besides Williams) is Cocah Fox looking at for this year?

    • Mayfield and Miller both signed with UGA last November. However, there is strong speculation that Coach Fox feels that Miller may not fit in his system and may release him from his scholly. The school is supposed to make an announcement in the next 1-2 days.

Regarding Vincent Williams, he has not signed with anyone yet. I believe he will make his first visit to Athens this weekend.
