Kirby Smart named 2025 George Munger Award semifinalist

Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart has been named a 2025 George Munger College Coach of the Year Award semifinalist, the Maxwell Football Club announced Wednesday.

The award is named after former University of Pennsylvania head coach George Munger. Voters include NCAA head coaches, members of the Maxwell Club, and sportswriters from all over the country.

Kirby Smart won the George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year Award following the 2017 season after guiding the Bulldogs to an SEC Championship,  a victory over the Oklahoma Sooners in the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Rose Bowl, and a College Football Playoff National Championship appearance.

Smart was also a finalist for the award in 2022 and 2024.

This season, Kirby Smart has led Georgia to an 9-1 record (7-1 SEC) and a likely berth in the College Football Playoff for the second consecutive season.

Finalists for the George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year Award will be announced on Monday, Dec. 8, 2025 followed by the winner on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025. The award will be formally presented at the Maxwell Awards Gala on Saturday, March 14, 2026, in Atlanta, Ga.

The Georgia Bulldogs are next scheduled to host the Charlotte 49ers on Saturday, Nov. 22 at Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga. The game will be televised by the SEC Network at 12:45pm ET (Buy Tickets).
