Peyton Woodring named 2025 Lou Groza Award semifinalist
UGA football junior place-kicker Peyton Woodring has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the 2025 Lou Groza Award, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced Tuesday.
The Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, named after legendary place-kicker Lou Groza, is an annual college football award given to the nation’s best kicker.
Semifinalists will be voted on by a panel of more than 100 FBS head coaches, SIDs, media members, former Groza finalists, and current NFL kickers to select the three finalists. These finalists will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 25 and honored at the 34th annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Awards Banquet on Monday, Dec. 8 in Palm Beach County. The same panel then selects the winner, who will be announced live on ESPN during the Home Depot College Football Awards on Friday, Dec. 12.
Woodring (5-10, 190), who hails from Lafayette, La., was named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week twice this season for his efforts against Tennessee on Sept. 13 and Mississippi State on Nov. 8. Through 10 games this season, Woodring has connected on 12-of-13 field goal attempts, the longest from 53 yards, and he has converted all 40 of his extra-point attempts.
The Georgia Bulldogs are next scheduled to host the Charlotte 49ers on Saturday, Nov. 22 at Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga. The game will be televised by the SEC Network at 12:45pm ET (Buy Tickets).
