UGA running backs Nate Frazier and Josh McCray have each been named to the 2025 Doak Walker Award Watch List, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced Tuesday.
Frazier and McCray are among 104 student-athletes named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List this season. The list also features 2024 Doak Walker Award semifinalist Makhi Hughes (Oregon), who ran for more than 1,400 yards and ranked 10th nationally in total rushing yards playing for Tulane.
The Doak Walker Award “was created in 1989 to recognize the nation’s premier running back for his accomplishments on the field, achievement in the classroom and citizenship in the community.”
Ten semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award will be named in November, and three finalists will be announced later that month. The recipient of the 2025 Doak Walker Award will be announced at The Home Depot College Football Awards show on Thursday, Dec. 11 live on ESPN.
Frazier, a native of Compton, Calif., was an SEC All Freshman Team honoree last season after rushing 133 times for 671 yards and eight touchdowns. He also caught 12 passes for 85 yards.
McCray, a redshirt senior, transferred to UGA earlier this year after playing four seasons at Illinois. Last season, he rushed 117 times for 609 yards and 10 touchdowns, while also adding 13 receptions for 116 yards and one touchdown.
The Georgia Bulldogs are set to open the 2025 season at home against the Marshall Thundering Herd on Saturday, Aug. 30. The game will be televised live by ESPN at 3:30pm ET (Buy Tickets).
