Georgia running back Nate Frazier has been named to the preseason Maxwell Award Watch List, an honor that highlights him as one of the top players to watch in college football heading into the 2025 season. The Maxwell Award is presented each year to the most outstanding player in the nation, and Frazier’s inclusion is a strong indicator of the expectations surrounding his sophomore campaign in Athens.

As a freshman in 2024, Frazier emerged as a key piece of Georgia’s offense despite not beginning the year as the featured back. He finished the season with 133 carries for 671 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, averaging five yards per attempt. He also contributed as a receiver, adding 85 yards on 12 catches. His ability to produce explosive plays and pick up tough yards made him one of the most efficient runners in the SEC as a first-year player. Among his standout performances were a 107 all-purpose yard output and a touchdown versus Clemson to start the season, and a breakout game against UMass, where he posted over 130 yards and found the end zone three times.

Now entering his second season, Frazier is expected to lead the Bulldogs’ ground attack. With Georgia undergoing some transition on offense, particularly along the offensive line and in the backfield, Frazier will be counted on to provide stability and production. Coaches and analysts alike have pointed to his physicality, vision, and acceleration as traits that could make him one of the SEC’s top rushers in 2025. He brings a balanced skill set that allows him to impact the game both as a runner and as a pass catcher, making him a reliable option regardless of down and distance.

Georgia’s offense is expected to emphasize the run game more heavily this fall after leaning on the passing attack last season. Frazier’s role will be central to that shift. With a full offseason to prepare as the lead back, he is poised to shoulder a significant workload and build on the momentum from his first year. Being named to the Maxwell Watch List doesn’t just reflect what Frazier has already accomplished, but also signals what many believe he’s capable of in the months ahead. If he meets those expectations, he could very well be in the thick of the conversation for national awards by season’s end.
