The Georgia Bulldogs have struck again on the recruiting trail, landing a commitment from class of 2027 four-star cornerback Donte Wright out of Long Beach, California. Wright becomes the second pledge in Georgia’s 2027 recruiting class and the second from the state of California, joining Mater Dei wide receiver Gavin Honore.

It’s yet another sign that Kirby Smart and his staff are not only dominating in the present but are laying down a firm foundation for the future. With Georgia already holding the No. 1 class in the country for 2026, the Bulldogs are now extending that momentum into the 2027 cycle with this high-upside defensive addition.

Wright, a standout at Long Beach Poly, has already emerged as one of the more polished young corners on the West Coast. His blend of quick feet, fluid hips, and strong instincts in coverage have made him a priority for several top-tier programs across the country. But it’s Georgia that earns the early nod from Wright, a significant victory given the distance and the level of national competition for his services. While he’s still a couple of years away from stepping onto a college field, Wright’s commitment speaks volumes about the level of trust he has in Smart’s defensive blueprint and Georgia’s consistent track record of producing elite secondary talent.

For Georgia, the addition of Wright strengthens what is quickly becoming a national footprint in recruiting. The Bulldogs have long recruited the Southeast with dominance, but pulling a talented defender out of California underscores their growing influence coast to coast. It also reinforces the fact that Georgia is not only selling immediate success but long-term development and NFL preparation, particularly at a position group where the Bulldogs have consistently excelled.

The commitment also highlights how aggressive and forward-thinking Kirby Smart’s staff continues to be. While many programs are still focused on finalizing their 2025 and 2026 classes, Georgia is already locking in key pieces for 2027. It’s a strategic approach that’s paying dividends. Wright’s early decision to join the Bulldogs reflects the strength of the Georgia brand and the relationships being built behind the scenes. With two highly touted Californians now on board for 2027, Georgia is showing that its recruiting machine isn’t just humming — it’s roaring across the country.
