The most important Bobo in 2025 for Georgia football will be Drew Bobo

Georgia faithful all became fans of Drew Bobo, the son of Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, when the reserve Georgia offensive lineman perfectly executed a gutsy fake punt call by Kirby Smart with 11:52 remaining in the fourth quarter of the 2024 SEC Championship game against Texas on a fourth and five yards to gain in Georgia’s territory in a tied ball game. Bobo showed great poise and soft hands by catching the direct snap and accurately tossing a soft forward pitch to a blazing Arian Smith. It was a great moment for the young Georgia legacy, but it wasn’t his only moment in the 2024 season.

Drew Bobo is set to be the starting center for the Georgia Bulldogs this season. While it will be the first season that Bobo will be the full-time center for the Dawgs, Bobo did get valuable experience as a starter for two games in the stead of Jared Wilson. Wilson has now moved on to the NFL, along with three other Georgia offensive linemen, and Bobo will be called upon to step up in a big way. Bobo is joined by Earnest Greene III, Micah Morris, and Monroe Freeling on the 2025 offensive line as Dawgs with starting experience.

All of this is key as Gunner Stockton is likely to be the new Georgia starting quarterback. Stockton is battling Ryan Puglisi for the starting role officially, but Stockton is the favorite at this point. Whether Stockton or Puglisi is behind Bobo, there are only six-quarters of meaningful playing experience combined with Georgia’s top two quarterbacks, and all of those six belong to Stockton. Georgia’s offensive scheme does as much or more than any team in college football pre-snap at the line of scrimmage.

There is very intricate communication that takes place between the quarterback and the rest of the offense before the play begins; sometimes, multiple checks and changes are made in a matter of seconds. In the past, Stetson Bennett IV and Carson Beck have handled the lion’s share of these duties.

That may be a different scenario in 2025. Drew Bobo is an extremely smart player, and when your father is the offensive coordinator, it’s safe to say you’ll probably know the offensive scheme as well as anybody can. Look for Bobo to help shoulder some of the burden from the Georgia quarterbacks this season regarding checking runs looks, and pass protections. This could go a long way to assisting Stockton to be highly successful early on and build confidence in Georgia’s first two contests against Marshall and Austin Peay before going on the road to Knoxville to take on the Volunteers and a boisterous Neyland Stadium crowd.

The crowd noise will be another new adventure to navigate for the center and quarterback duo. Overall, I know that Drew Bobo’s success will likely be much more critical to Georgia getting back to the national championship than Mike’s.
