Georgia football quarterback Carson Beck underwent successful surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, the school announced Monday.

Carson Beck was injured on the last play of the half in the SEC Championship Game against the Texas Longhorns. Beck did not play in the second half, but did enter the overtime period to hand the ball off to Trevor Etienne for the game-winning touchdown.

“Georgia quarterback Carson Beck underwent successful surgery Monday on his right elbow to repair his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL), performed by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles, Ca,” a statement from UGA read. “A full recovery is expected with throwing to begin spring of 2025.”

With Beck out for the remainder of the season, the Georgia Bulldogs will turn to Gunner Stockton as its starting quarterback. In the SEC Championship Game, Gunner Stockton completed 12-of-16 passes for 71 yards, which was his most significant game action this season.

On Monday, Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart participated in a Sugar Bowl press conference via Zoom where he commented on Stockton.

“He (Stockton) gets ‑‑ he got lots of reps prior to these practices, but he’s getting much more now,” S,art said. “I do think knowing when you get ready for an opponent like Notre Dame, you need time. And we haven’t known who we were going to play for, I guess now 24, 48 hours we’ve known. And 72 hours. And there’s certainly a lot of time and prep you can do to prepare for that. And we prepared for some of that prior to that because we knew it would be one of two opponents.

“But I think the biggest thing is just competition and practice. The situations we put him in. All those things allow him to get better as a quarterback.”

The SEC Champion Bulldogs, who finished the regular-season 11-2 overall, are next scheduled to play Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff Quarterfinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, La. ESPN will televise the game at 8:45pm ET (Buy Tickets).
