Georgia football has provided an update on the injury status of quarterback Carson Beck and punter Brett Thorson, and the news is not good.

Carson Beck was injured on the last play of the half on Saturday in the SEC Championship Game against the Texas Longhorns. Beck did not play in the second half, but did enter the overtime period to hand the ball off to Trevor Etienne for the game-winning touchdown.

“Georgia quarterback Carson Beck suffered an elbow injury during Saturday’s Southeastern Conference Championship game,” the statement from UGA read. “He and his family are exploring treatment options and there is no current timetable on his return.”

With Beck’s status in doubt, the Georgia Bulldogs are preparing to move ahead with Gunner Stockton as its starting quarterback for the College Football Playoff Quarterfinal matchup in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day. Georgia will face the winner of the Indiana Hoosiers-Notre Dame Fighting Irish first round contest.

In the SEC Championship Game, Gunner Stockton completed 12-of-16 passes for 71 yards, which was his most significant game action this season.

As for Brett Thorson, Georgia has announced that he suffered a knee injury to his non-kicking leg and it will require season-ending surgery. Freshman Drew Miller, the nation’s No. 1 punter from the 2024 class, and walk-on junior Noah Jones are the likely candidates to replace Thorson.

Head coach Kirby Smart commented on the injuries to Beck and Thorson on Monday afternoon.

“Carson and Brett are both fierce competitors and extremely hard workers,” Smart said in a statement. “I’m confident they will attack their rehab with the same determination they exhibit in their daily habits. We will be here to support them every step of the way.”
