Peyton Woodring named 2024 Lou Groza Award semifinalist
UGA football sophomore place-kicker Peyton Woodring has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the 2024 Lou Groza Award, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced Tuesday.
The Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, named after legendary place-kicker Lou Groza, is an annual college football award given to the nation’s best kicker.
Semifinalists will be voted on by a panel of more than 100 FBS head coaches, SIDs, media members, former Groza finalists, and current NFL kickers to select the three finalists. These finalists will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 26 and honored at the 33nd annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Awards Banquet on Monday, Dec. 9 in Palm Beach County. The same panel then selects the winner, who will be announced live on ESPN during the Home Depot College Football Awards on Friday, Dec. 12.
Woodring (5-10, 185), who hails from Lafayette, La., was named SEC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week following his performance in the season-opener vs. Clemson. He is 16-of-17 on field goals this season and has converted all 34 of his point-after-attempts.
The Georgia Bulldogs are next scheduled to host the UMass Minutemen on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga. The game will be televised by the SEC Network at 12:45pm ET (Buy Tickets).
