Rara Thomas dismissed from UGA football team
UGA football wide receiver Rara Thomas has been dismissed from the team, head coach Kirby Smart announced on Thursday.
“He can no longer be part of the football team,” Smart said during a Thursday morning press conference. “He understands that. We wish him the best moving forward.”
Rara Thomas was arrested early on Friday, July 26 and charged with felony cruelty to children and two misdemeanor charges of family violence/battery.
Earlier this year, Thomas was issued three citations for speeding and another citation for running a red light.
Thomas transferred to UGA from Mississippi State last year. In his first season in Athens, he had 23 receptions for 383 yards and one touchdown.
Last month, safety Daniel David-Sisavanh was dismissed from the team after he was charged with reckless driving after leading Atlanta police on a high speed pursuit.
The Georgia Bulldogs are set to open the 2024 season against the Clemson Tigers in the Aflac Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga., on Saturday, Aug. 31. The game will be televised live by ABC at noon ET (Buy Tickets).
