Derrek Cooper, a four-star running back from Hollywood, Fla., has committed to UGA football for the class of 2026.

Cooper announced his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs on Thursday evening.

Head coach Kirby Smart posted his usual response to X, formerly Twitter, upon learning of the news.

Derrek Cooper (6-4, 225) currently plays for Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory in Hollywood. He committed to the Georgia Bulldogs over Florida State and Miami, and he also held offers offers from other top schools, including Auburn, Boston College, Kentucky, LSU, Ohio State, SMU, and UCF.

“(Kirby Smart) said he really wanted me and was going to come to my spring practice,” Cooper told UGASports.com this spring. “Coach Smart is a great coach and developing under his wing would definitely increase my chances of getting drafted into the NFL.”

In the 247Sports Composite, Derrek Cooper is rated as a four-star recruit, the No. 3 athlete, and the No. 52 overall recruit in the country for 2026.

Rivals.com also rates Derrek Cooper as a four-star recruit, the No. 1 athlete in the nation, and the No. 18 recruit in the nation.

Cooper is the second commitment for Georgia for the class of 2026. With those two pledges, UGA’s 2026 class is currently ranked fifth in the 247Sports Team Rankings.
