ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia’s Silas Demary Jr. has been named to the SEC’s All-Freshman team in balloting of league coaches, the conference office announced on Monday.

Demary has enjoyed a stellar initial season with the Bulldogs, averaging 9.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists and team-leading 1.5 steals in 27.4 minutes per game. He increased his scoring average in SEC play to 10.5 points per game. Among league leaders, Demary currently ranks No. 9 in steals, both overall and against league competition.

The 6-5, 190-pound guard from Raleigh, N.C., has recorded 15 double-digit scoring outputs, headlined by a season-high 22 points at No. 8/10 Kentucky. He has led the Bulldogs in scoring in six games, in assists nine times and in steals in 15 outings.

Demary became the first Georgia freshman to start a season opener since Anthony Edwards in 2019 and has gotten the nod for 30 of 31 games. His only non-start was on the Bulldogs’ “Senior Night.” Still, Demary leads all SEC freshman in total starts (30) and SEC starts (17).

Demary is the 13th Bulldog to earn a spot on the SEC’s All-Freshman team since the award’s inception in 1987, a list that includes current NBA standouts Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in 2012 and Edwards in 2020.
