Two Bulldogs named to 2023 Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award Watch List

UGA football offensive tackle Earnest Greene, III, and outside linebacker Damon Wilson, Jr., have both been named to the 2023 Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award Watch List, it was announced on Wednesday.

The Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award, named in honor of Shaun Alexander, a former standout at the University of Alabama and with the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL, is presented to the College Freshman Player of the Year.

Past Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award winners include Trevor Lawrence (2018, Clemson), Kenneth Gainwell (2019, Memphis), Will Anderson Jr. (2020, Alabama), Brock Bowers (2021, Georgia), and Drake Maye (2022, North Carolina).

Finalists for the 6th annual Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year award will be announced in December. The formal presentation of the award will be made in March of 2024.

Earnest Greene, who hails from Los Angeles, Calif., was a 247Sports four-star prospect and was selected to play in the 2022 All-American Bowl.

Damon Wilson, who hails from Nokomis, Fla., was also selected to play in the 2022 All-American Bowl. Wilson was a 247Sports five-star recruit and was ranked as the No. 13 recruit in the nation.

The back-to-back national champion Georgia Bulldogs are scheduled to open the 2023 season on Saturday, Sept. 2 against the UT Martin Skyhawks at Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga. The game will kickoff at 6:00pm ET and will be a streaming-only event on SEC Network+ and ESPN+.
