Brett Thorson named to 2023 Ray Guy Award Watch List

UGA football sophomore punter Brett Thorson has been named to the 2023 Ray Guy Award Watch List, the Augusta Sports Council has announced.

The Ray Guy Award is an annual award presented to the nation’s top punter in college football. Thorson is one of 49 candidates for the award this season.

The list of 49 nominees, which could expand as the season progresses, will be narrowed down to ten semifinalists in November, followed by the announcement of three finalists later that month.

The 2023 Ray Guy Award winner will be announced at The Home Depot College Football Awards live on ESPN in December.

Brett Thorson, who hails from Melbourne, Australia, has a career-long punt of 75 yards (vs. Tennessee, 2022). In his freshman season in Athens, Thorson punted 36 times for 1,620 yards (45 yards per punt).

The national champion Georgia Bulldogs are scheduled to open the 2023 season on Saturday, Sept. 2 against the UT Martin Skyhawks at Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga. (Buy Tickets).
