Kirby Smart named George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year Award finalist

UGA football head coach Kirby Smart has been named a George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year Award finalist, the Maxwell Football Club announced on Thursday.

The award was named after former University of Pennsylvania head coach George Munger. Voters include NCAA head coaches, members of the Maxwell Club, and sportswriters from all over the country.

Kirby Smart won the George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year Award following the 2017 season after guiding the Bulldogs to an SEC Championship and victory over Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Rose Bowl.

This season, Kirby Smart has led Georgia to an SEC Championship Game victory over LSU, a perfect 13-0 record, and a berth in the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The winner of the 2022 George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year Award will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, and the award will be formally presented at the 86th Maxwell Awards Gala on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at the Mohegan Pennsylvania resort.

The top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs and the fourth-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes will square off in the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 31 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga. The game will be televised by ESPN at 8:00pm ET.
