UGA senior defensive back Deandre Baker has been named to the 2018 Bednarik Award Watch List, the Maxwell Football Club has announced.
The Bednarik Award, named after Chuck Bednarik, is an annual award given to the college football defensive player of the year.
Last season, Georgia linebacker Roquan Smith and defensive tackle Trent Thompson were named to the Bednarik Award Watch List. Smith was later named a finalist for the award.
Semifinalists for the 2018 Bednarik Award will be announced on Monday, Oct. 29, followed by the three finalists on Monday, Nov. 19. The winner of the 2018 Bednarik Award will be announced at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018.
Deandre Baker, who hails from from Miami, Florida, had 44 total tackles in 2017 (30 solo, 14 assisted). Baker also had three interceptions for 37 yards.
