Mitchell, Jenkins named to 2015 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

UGA wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell and outside linebacker Jordan Jenkins have each been named to the 2015 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List.

The Wuerffel Trophy, named after former Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel, is presented by the All Sports Association of Fort Walton Beach, Florida to the college football player who “best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.”

Jordan Jenkins has already been named to the watch list for the Lombardi Award (lineman or linebacker of the year), Butkus Award (best linebacker), Bronco Nagurski Trophy (most outstanding defensive player), and Bednarik Award (defensive player of the year).

From the UGA release:

Mitchell, a 6-1, 194-pound receiver from Valdosta, Ga., was the team’s third-leading receiver in 2014 with 31 catches for 248 yards and three touchdowns while playing in nine games. Mitchell, who sustained a season-ending knee injury in the 2013 opener, had a combined 85 catches for 1,237 yards and eight touchdowns during his first two seasons in 2011-12.

Jenkins, a 6-3, 253-pound linebacker from Hamilton, Ga., is the Bulldogs’ top returning tackler from his outside linebacker position with 70 stops in 2014. He finished with 9.5 tackles for loss and five sacks to go along with a team-high 24 quarterback pressures. In addition, Jenkins forced two fumbles and recovered another pair last season.
